Selena
She broke down the walls of the world of music as a singer, performer as well as a designer. She was simultaneously modern and traditional. She was she was a Mexican American who brought two worlds in a unique way. The tragic loss of her life shattered her rise in popularity, and like many times when a bright deeply genial singer dies too young, it left many to mourn her unrealized potential. Her fans are working even harder to not forget what she's accomplished. Her tragic death in a shooting provoked a response from the Latino Community that was comparable to reactions following the deaths of Elvis Presley or John Lennon. A hugely popular performer within Latino communities across North America her music crossed lines of cultural difference to affect the lives of children and old alike. Selena may have been hailed by many as a Latina Madonna, however she's still a fantastic example to follow. Selena's off-stage family values as well as her involvement with AIDS awareness programs make her a good example.
