Winona Laura Horowitz, professionally referred to as Winona Ryder was born in Winona Minnesota. The parents named her Winona for her home town. Michel Horowitz was her father and Cynthia Palmer, his mother are both authors as well as editors. Ryder, who considers herself Jewish and descends from Ryder's Jewish father.
